History is not neutral. The programs presented at the Filson are interpretations of the past—created from imperfect, incomplete, and occasionally biased archives and created by historians who bring their individual life histories and perspectives to bear on the stories they share. The topics of Filson presentations are often difficult and frequently resonate with issues facing us today. This is by design! We have invited our presenters to engage honestly, critically, and respectfully with sometimes uncomfortable topics, and we encourage our audiences to do the same. Join us in that spirit of collective exploration, learning, and growth that has animated the Filson for over 130 years!
During inclement weather, The Filson follows the University of Louisville’s schedule.
