Description

Due to space constraints, this event is limited to a smaller number of attendees than usual. Early sign-ups are highly encouraged.

Known as the “Athens of the West,” Lexington was a jewel of an American cultural center during the mid-19th century, and social dances were the glue holding its high society together. These were the events which defined social lives during the Romatic Era and American Civil War. Join us as Lexington Vintage Dance performs the elegant waltzes, polkas, schottishces, mazurkas, and galops of the period set to music by the best Kentucky composers of the day. Following the performance will be an instructional period during which audience members are encouraged to learn and try the dances they have just watched.

Lexington Vintage Dance is an non-profit educational organization headquartered in Lexington, Ky. They are dedicated to the research, teaching, performance, and promotion of ballroom and social dance forms of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
