Description

Join the Filson Historical Society and KET for a celebration of the life and work of late artist Julius Friedman, featuring screenings of: 

  • KET’s Kentucky Muse:  Julius Friedman Picture This  Internationally renowned artist Julius Friedman produced a massive body of work that ranges from innovative corporate designs to stunningly beautiful fine art pieces, sometimes blurring the line between the two. This 2011 KET production chronicles his life and art. 
  • The Veil - Two ballet dancers improvise inside a large multi-media installation (Rebirth) featuring a diverse range of moving water images. Directed by Julius Friedman and Richard Van Kleeck featuring dancers Erica De la O and Roger Creel. Filmed at the Frazier History Museum in Louisville, Kentucky, this film captures an intriguing and mysterious fantasy when a veiled ballerina encounters her dream partner.
  • Convergence Redux - This short film brings together different cultures and traditions generating confrontation and the coming together of the worlds of hip hop and ballet dancing. Directed by Julius Friedman and Richard Van Kleeck. Featured dancers are Erica De la O and Krzysztof Wojtera (ballet) and break/pop/hip hop dancers Shyjuan 3D Davis and Lamar Young. 

5 pm:    Reception and viewing of the Filson’s Evolving Inspiration:  The Art and Design of Julius Friedman exhibit

6 pm:    Screenings,  followed by discussion with Friedman’s longtime friend and collaborator Richard Van Kleek
