Join The Filson Historical Society, KET, and Richard Van Kleek for a screening of three short documentaries centering on the life and work of late artist Julius Friedman.
- Julius Friedman: Picture This - A profile of Louisville graphic designer and photographer Julius Friedman explores his extensive body of work, including innovative posters for non-profit organizations, and shows him at work on current projects.
- The Veil - Two ballet dancers improvise inside a large multi-media installation (Rebirth) featuring a diverse range of moving water images. Directed by Julius Friedman and Richard Van Kleeck featuring dancers Erica De la O and Roger Creel. Filmed at the Frazier History Museum in Louisville, Kentucky, this film captures an intriguing and mysterious fantasy when a veiled ballerina encounters her dream partner.
- Convergence Redux - This short film brings together different cultures and traditions generating confrontation and the coming together of the worlds of hip hop and ballet dancing. Directed by Julius Friedman and Richard Van Kleeck. Featured dancers are Erica De la O and Krzysztof Wojtera (ballet) and break/pop/hip hop dancers Shyjuan 3D Davis and Lamar Young.
This event begins with a reception and viewing of the Filson’s Evolving Inspiration: The Art and Design of Julius Friedman exhibit followed by a screening of the documentaries. A question and answer session with producers Tom Thurman and Richard Van Kleek will follow the film. This event is free, but reservations are required.
