Description

The Winter Concert is generously sponsored by Dinsmore and Shohl, LLP and Treyton Oak Towers.

So much of the holidays are about tradition, and The Filson Historical Society continues for its third year, hosting a winter concert by the NouLou Chamber Players. Join us on Tuesday, December 10th for an evening filled with warmth and good cheer, and fantastic music by NouLou musicians as they perform in the stunning library at Oxmoor Farm. NouLou Chamber Players will perform Franz Schubert’s monumental work, Octet in F Major, D. 803 for clarinet, horn, bassoon, two violins, viola, cello and bass. Written in 1824, Schubert was commissioned by Count Ferdinand von Troyer, an accomplished ametuer clarinettist, to compose a companion piece to the Beethoven Septet (which NouLou performed for Filson in December 2018). Schubert retained the instrumentation that Beethoven used 20 years earlier, but added a second violin. Schubert’s Octet comes from the same period as two other famous chamber works, his ‘ Rosamunde’ & ‘ Death and the Maiden’ string quartets. There will be a pre-concert reception at 5:30 p.m. and the concert will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the library. This event is free for Filson members and $25 for non-members.
