The Saint James Court Art Show has commissioned Mark Bird (co-founder of the Official Poster series) to create a new series entitled: A Sense of Place. On the 20th of August, The Filson will host the unveiling ceremony for the inaugural poster in this new series. Mr. Bird will discuss his work, refreshments will be served, and posters from all previous years will be exhibited.

Following the ceremony, Stephen W. Brown (who will write a short history of the subject of each poster in the A Sense of Place series) will speak on the history of the place – the neighborhood, Saint James Court & its Fountain (whose maintenance served as the primary motive for launching the Art Show), and the subject of first poster in the new series. Mr. Brown hopes that this exploration of the place through time will give you a new look at Old Louisville.

Stephen W. Brown is a Board member of the Louisville Historical League and has written and spoken on various topics of local history. His eclectic background includes teaching in the Philosophy Department at the University of Louisville, working as a professional musician and managing a major label artist, and working in various capacities in film, TV, and music video productions. While his higher education was financed in part by digging graves, these days he focuses on digging up fascinating and forgotten stories improperly interred.
