Have you ever wanted to know more about the history of your home, or of a particular building?  “The History of Your House” is a panel discussion that will provide you with the opportunity to hear from three local information specialists on the different resources that organizations such as the Floyd County Historical Society, The Louisville Free Public Library and The Filson Historical Society have to help you research the history of your home and neighborhood. From architectural records to building histories, there are many resources out there that you may have known about (and some you didn’t know about) to aid you in learning more about your history. Joe Hardesty is the librarian of the Kentucky History and Genealogy section at the Louisville Free Public Library, which is the largest collection housed in a public library in the state. He has a Master’s in Library Science degree from the University of Kentucky. He has been researching his family genealogy since the mid-1980s and has served on the LFPL staff since 1997. David C. Barksdale is the State appointed Floyd County Historian and president of the Floyd County Historical Society. He has written several hundred house and building histories, along with helping to compile, Floyd County: The Early Years. David also co-authored, with Robyn Davis-Sekula, the Arcadia publication, New Albany in Vintage Postcards. Johna Ebling is an Associate Curator and the Exhibits Manager at The Filson Historical Society. She graduated from Ball State University and earned her MLIS from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
