Description

The Bullitt family of Oxmoor participated in the "war to end all wars.”  However, instead of fighting on the western front, they mainly helped behind the scenes.  Marshall Bullitt joined the Red Cross as a major.  His younger brother Dr. James Bullitt served in the U.S. Army Field hospitals and his cousin William C. Bullitt was employed in President Wilson’s state department and was a member of Wilson diplomatic team who would negotiate the treaty that ended the war.  In addition to these active participants, the Bullitt family also aided with the war effort on the home front. Join us as we learn about one family’s service to their country and how it helped shape the world.

Shirley Harmon has been the curator and director of the Oxmoor Estate and Cemetery for the past four years.  Prior to her job at Oxmoor she cataloged the Bullitt family papers at The Filson.  She is a graduate of Xavier University where she received her BA in History and from the University of Louisville where she received her Master’s in History.
